Canyons Youth Symphony
Canyons Youth Symphony (CYS) is an audition only district-wide full orchestra for strings, wind instruments and percussion. Any student in grades 4-9 are invited to audition.
Rehearsals are on Mondays and an occasional Tuesday (when there is no school on Monday) from 4:00 - 5:30 pm at Albion Middle School (2755 E. Newcastle Dr.) beginning in October through the end of April. CYS has opportunities to perform during the holidays, winter and spring with evening concerts and field trips.
The mission of CYS is to enhance school music programs, to improve individual performance and to promote goodwill throughout our community... AND, of course, HAVE A LOT OF FUN AND MAKE FRIENDS LIKE ONLY MUSICIANS CAN! With our mission goals in mind, middle school and high school students MUST be enrolled in their school band or orchestra to first audition and then participate in CYS. If you are selected to participate, there is an $85.00 tuition that covers, in part, the cost of operating the symphony. That is around $10.00 a month for a great and rewarding experience. COME AND JOIN US!
Auditions for the 2016-17 school year will be held on Sept. 12-14 from 3:30 - 4:30 pm at the Albion Middle School Band Room (2755 E. Newcastle Dr). Come any time during that hour, any of those days. Be prepared to play a short song or etude of your choice. You will also be asked to play some scales and a simple song to sight read. Percussionists will need to be skilled on snare, timpani, and mallets. Please don't stress over the audition! It is very low key, only you and a teacher will hear your audition (and a parent too if that helps).
